Although formally established as “Rice Byte Robotics” in 2025, we are a team of students who have been a part of the robotics scene not only locally but internationally, representing Bangladesh since 2020. We’re called Rice Byte because rice is Bangladesh’s primary crop and staple food. It’s a major part of the Bangladeshi identity– or as they say, “maache bhaate bangali.” Bhaat, or rice, is the foundation that builds our country’s economy, with its trade being a major source of income. Bangladesh is the third-largest producer of rice in the world. Its cultural significance, along with its significance in our day-to-day life, is why we as Bangladeshis see it as an integral part of our identity. In computer engineering, bytes have always served the purpose of representing single characters of text, which makes them the building blocks of any document, text file, or code. The word “byte” is also a homophone for the word “bite”, so when put together with the word “rice”, it becomes “rice byte”, which is a play on the words “rice bite”.
